"No Tomorrow"December 01 Appreciate the little pleasures in life!My life is like one big theme park where everyone is happy eating all their favorite foods and everyone is smiling and enjoying their favorite rides. Thats how I feel about my life. I am like a little kid in one big gigantic theme park. Living like this has made me realize that you have to let go of all the little things that bug you and savor all the little pleasures that life has to offer! I have to admit there are ups and downs just like a roller coaster but nothing is like the thrill of a roller coaster! Over the past few months I have learnt that my dad has cancer, its the saddest thing but at the same time I am having the best time of life in London. My dad is the strongest person I know and although I don't see him often we have a lot in common, and I know that he will get through it and live another day! Despite this news I have had a lot of good news too, for one. my work is going to sponsor me to work and live in London, what more could I ask for! Then last wednesday I won a case of cloudy bay wine at the business awards! This was the biggest thing I have won in my life. Luck must be on my side! I went to a hat party a few weeks ago and it was wicked! I was mask of zorro, its amazing how a mask can make you feel so free! no one knew who I was... apart from Michelle of course! I would love to go to another hat party! I am studying for my MCSE now and its a weird feeling going back to study! but I know it will broaden my IT knowledge, and its always good to learn something new! Christmas is close, I am not one to celebrate Christmas, but I am in London so I am going to celebrate it like I have never before! Ok I better go join my flatmates for a drink and head off to EGG! life is good.... For all those out there, if you think your life is not up to scratch, let me tell you that you have the power to turn your life around and make it all that life should be..... an adventure! Till next time... work hard, party hard, live life like it should be!! October 16 A whirl wind few months!Well well... what can I say but I have been a busy busy bee! Thanks to the new faces that have given me wicked comments! Nice to meet you guys! Ok well I don’t even really know where to start so let me bullet point a few things and then I will ramble on about them! 1: I went to Ibiza and Valencia! I LOVE SPAIN! It’s truly really beautiful there! Picture this, pastel coloured buildings in Valencia, nice beaches and wicked parties in Ibiza. How awesome is that! First stop was Ibiza tho, and boy is that party central or what?! I went to Hed Kandi and damn it was wicked. For those planning to go there, one word of advice, Ibiza is expensive! 10 euros for a small bottle of water and if you don’t buy your entry tickets at a store before the party then expect to pay 60 euros just to get in!! if you buy early you are looking at 40 euros! Still expensive, but well worth the experience!! When I was there it was really hot, love it but if you party hard at night and expect to sleep during the day then you better hope you can handle the heat! After Ibiza we caught the ferry over to Valencia! What a beautiful city. We camped near the beach for the few days we were there, very nice! There is this Spanish dish called “paella”, I think that’s how you spell it, but anyway, it was tasty! Very tasty! Oh how I love food.. hehe. During our stay in Valencia we went to “La Tomatina”, for those that are not sure what that is, it’s the “Tomato festival”. Pretty much a huge food fight with tomatoes! Boy there were heaps of people there! It was definitely an experience, a ONCE in a life time experience. I wouldn’t do it again as I am not a huge fan of being in a HUGE crowd for a few hours! A word of warning tho, for females that plan to do this in the future, please please, have some males with you and make sure you wear something that can not be ripped of your body, I know that sounds bad but it does get rough and not all males are sensitive and respectable when there is a food fight and they are drunk!! I was glad I experienced La Tomatina, I wouldn’t do it again tho. I was on the plane back to London and I read in this travel magazine the top 20 things to do in your life. La Tomatina was number 5. YAY! TICK! Ok enough about Spain… moving on to other things I have been doing. 2: Take French classes. So work has this cool scheme where you can take a course and they will pay for it, how cool is that. Anyway I picked French and I am taking that every Monday night after work. Its great but I suck at it… je maple Derek… hehe 3: hitting clubs in London I have been partying it up in London for a bit now and I am loving it. I have been to Ministry of Sound, Fabric, Egg and Turnmills. All of which have been awesome nights! 4: I have a new role at work And I thought life couldn’t get any better. A little after 5 months and I have been given another role in IT Lab. I am now an engineer. That’s awesome cos I am more stimulated at work now, its great knowing that I am fixing more problems and making a difference for our clients. Well I know it’s a small update for a few months of no updates, but rest assured there will be more updates… in the mean time enjoy the photos taken over the last few months! bon au revoir et font attention! June 04 Finally an updateI finally moved into my new place over the weekend. I was lucky that Mus helped me move with his car! it saved me many tube rides back and forth!! The place is quite cosy and i love the fact that i have my own balcony that you can get to from my room! well i kind of share it but no one else uses it but me! So I'm a rent payer now! no more £35 a week, no bills deal! The place is literally 1 minute away from my place, i can see the tube station from my balcony! so that's real handy! then in the opposite direction i have the gym, also 1 minute away! Work is 3 tube stops away from where i live now! so as per TFL it should take only 11 minutes from the tube at home to the station near work! I'm really happy with the place I found. I'm actually thinking about getting a bike so i can bike to and from work! a bit of exercise and also helps with saving some money on transport! Work is also going great, i love the people I'm working with. Everyone has been really nice and welcoming which has helped me settle in nicely! I was talking to my boss the other day and he mentioned how it was a shame i was only going to be here for a year, and i mentioned that there was a good chance that i wanted to stay and live in London. He then said that he would without a doubt sponsor me if i wanted to keep living in London! how cool is that! I didn't want to apply too much pressure at the moment so I said that I love London and would be keen but since I'm so new we could review it in 6 months! So see how it goes, but i do love the fact that I am making the £££££ What else, what else. I have been making some new friends too cos a lot of the contiki tour buddies have left London back to their home countries. Its quite sad really cos i was getting along with a lot of them! thank god for Facebook! I have been having some mad nights out too! i got to give my liver a break at some point! I will post up pics when I can. At the moment my new place doesn't have a tv and i don't have a laptop so there isn't a lot that i can do during the evenings! i hope to get me a brand spanking new MacBook. I can't wait cos those machines are sexy!! Other than that life in London is goooood, I love it here and I'm having a ball of a time! May 11 Work is greatSo I have only been at work for 2 days but I'm really enjoying it! I could go on a bit more about it but its late and I just want to make a small update. I have this little book called "The Big OE Guide" from 1st Contact and I wanted to share something I read in it. The article is called "10 Commandments of London", and here they are:
Ok time for bed... till next time! May 03 Time to make some "Bling"I have not made any updates lately due to the fact that I have been busy finding employment. Lucky for me it hasn't taken me long! I start work for a company called IT Lab (www.itlab.com) next Wednesday (9 May 07). I'm really happy that I got this job because it is in the field that I want to be in and also the company has a great environment and also great people! I have yet to fully understand my role but it is something along the lines of Client/Service Delivery, ensuring that the customers faults are resolved in a timely manner and for me to achieve this I can make use of the resources in other areas of the company! Once I know the role better I will write more about it. In my interview I had to do a psychometric test! sounds scary but after some google searches you begin to realize what the tests are about! and really its not that scary! I must have done ok cos I got the job! I also had to draw a picture about my passions and goals and talk about it. I found that to be a great little exercise! After the interview I was then asked to conduct a Strengths Finder questionnaire! for those interested below were my results. I found it to be very insightful and amazingly accurate! Last night James, Kristin and I enjoyed drinks and a tasty dinner at the local pub called "The Blacksheep" while watching the Man U VS Milan football game. Mainly it was for the game but it was also for the fact that I got my job! The next step will be to find a place of my own! I have been checking on www.gumtree.com for most of today but nothing has struck me yet! Well I am off to din dins (yay for egg fried rice with roast pork and veges! I'm drooling just thinking about it), will write more soon and add more photos of course!! --------results from questionnaire----------- Restorative You love to solve problems. Whereas some are dismayed when they encounter yet another breakdown, you can be energized by it. You enjoy the challenge of analyzing the symptoms, identifying what is wrong, and finding the solution. You may prefer practical problems or conceptual ones or personal ones. You may seek out specific kinds of problems that you have met many times before and that you are confident you can fix. Or you may feel the greatest push when faced with complex and unfamiliar problems. Your exact preferences are determined by your other themes and experiences. But what is certain is that you enjoy bringing things back to life. It is a wonderful feeling to identify the undermining factor(s), eradicate them, and restore something to its true glory. Intuitively, you know that without your intervention, this thing-this machine, this technique, this person, this company-might have ceased to function. You fixed it, resuscitated it, rekindled its vitality. Phrasing it the way you might, you saved it. Woo Woo stands for winning others over. You enjoy the challenge of meeting new people and getting them to like you. Strangers are rarely intimidating to you. On the contrary, strangers can be energizing. You are drawn to them. You want to learn their names, ask them questions, and find some area of common interest so that you can strike up a conversation and build rapport. Some people shy away from starting up conversations because they worry about running out of things to say. You don't. Not only are you rarely at a loss for words; you actually enjoy initiating with strangers because you derive satisfaction from breaking the ice and making a connection. Once that connection is made, you are quite happy to wrap it up and move on. There are new people to meet, new rooms to work, new crowds to mingle in. In your world there are no strangers, only friends you haven't met yet-lots of them. Achiever Your Achiever theme helps explain your drive. Achiever describes a constant need for achievement. You feel as if every day starts at zero. By the end of the day you must achieve something tangible in order to feel good about yourself. And by "every day" you mean every single day-workdays, weekends, vacations. No matter how much you may feel you deserve a day of rest, if the day passes without some form of achievement, no matter how small, you will feel dissatisfied. You have an internal fire burning inside you. It pushes you to do more, to achieve more. After each accomplishment is reached, the fire dwindles for a moment, but very soon it rekindles itself, forcing you toward the next accomplishment. Your relentless need for achievement might not be logical. It might not even be focused. But it will always be with you. As an Achiever you must learn to live with this whisper of discontent. It does have its benefits. It brings you the energy you need to work long hours without burning out. It is the jolt you can always count on to get you started on new tasks, new challenges. It is the power supply that causes you to set the pace and define the levels of productivity for your work group. It is the theme that keeps you moving. Responsibility Your Responsibility theme forces you to take psychological ownership for anything you commit to, and whether large or small, you feel emotionally bound to follow it through to completion. Your good name depends on it. If for some reason you cannot deliver, you automatically start to look for ways to make it up to the other person. Apologies are not enough. Excuses and rationalizations are totally unacceptable. You will not quite be able to live with yourself until you have made restitution. This conscientiousness, this near obsession for doing things right, and your impeccable ethics, combine to create your reputation: utterly dependable. When assigning new responsibilities, people will look to you first because they know it will get done. When people come to you for help-and they soon will-you must be selective. Your willingness to volunteer may sometimes lead you to take on more than you should. Arranger You are a conductor. When faced with a complex situation involving many factors, you enjoy managing all of the variables, aligning and realigning them until you are sure you have arranged them in the most productive configuration possible. In your mind there is nothing special about what you are doing. You are simply trying to figure out the best way to get things done. But others, lacking this theme, will be in awe of your ability. "How can you keep so many things in your head at once?" they will ask. "How can you stay so flexible, so willing to shelve well-laid plans in favor of some brand-new configuration that has just occurred to you?" But you cannot imagine behaving in any other way. You are a shining example of effective flexibility, whether you are changing travel schedules at the last minute because a better fare has popped up or mulling over just the right combination of people and resources to accomplish a new project. From the mundane to the complex, you are always looking for the perfect configuration. Of course, you are at your best in dynamic situations. Confronted with the unexpected, some complain that plans devised with such care cannot be changed, while others take refuge in the existing rules or procedures. You don't do either. Instead, you jump into the confusion, devising new options, hunting for new paths of least resistance, and figuring out new partnerships-because, after all, there might just be a better way. April 21 Contiki tour baby!I had an awesome 2 weeks on the European Contiki tour! it was full of great site seeing and wild parties in the evenings! I was boozed nearly every night, it was just one big party! We started our tour on the 2nd April 07 at 6am in front of the Royal National Hotel in London. We then drove down to Dover to catch the ferry over to France. The places we visited in this part of the world were Paris, Beaujolais Wine Region, Nice (pronounced Neece, despite the spelling) and Monaco. I don't usually drink a lot of wine but when I was in France, it was ALL wine! I pulled a sly and bought 0.99 cent wine most of the time from supermarkets, it was a real bargain, plus the wine tasted good! France was a little rushed but that's what I expected from a 2 week tour. We went to the Louvre but we only had an hour there and I have seen pictures of the Mona Lisa before so I decided to walk around the outside to take some great photos! The Eiffel tower was awesome, we went there in the evening and Paris is beautiful at night, how ever I wanted to see Paris during the day so the following day I went to a building called the "Montparnasse" tower (http://www.tourmontparnasse56.com/uk/) which is just as high as the Eiffel tower but you can actually see the Eiffel tower. While in the Beaujolais Wine Region we stayed at Château de Cruix near Lyon. It was really peaceful there then in the evening we had an awesome beach party, needless to say everyone was off their rocker! The day after it was off to the French Rivieria to explore Nice, and what a beautiful city it was! I was a little disappointed the beach had no sand tho. In the evening we went to Monaco and visited Monte Carlo casino, I lost $4.50 euro which was the most I could muster for gambling! it's amazing how rich people are in this city! they are so rich its ridiculous! What is more horrific is how this city became so rich! From there we cruised to Italy and went to Pisa, Florence, Rome and Venice. Our first stop was Pisa, home of the famous leaning tower, where we took the good old cliche "hold up the tower" photo! Then it was off to Florence, and what a beautiful place! the only thing I guess that bothered me was the smell but that did not deter how timeless the city was! Rome was our next stop! I had an awesome time in Rome as it was my birthday! I'm not big on advertising my birthday but our tour guide, Alex paid attention to my passport details. That evening we had a massive party and everyone was there, it was an unforgettable night... and an unforgettable birthday....needless to say I was glad Alex realized it was my birthday! Next up was Venice! yet another beautiful city. We went on a Gondola ride through Venice, which was stunning! it's amazing how this city stays above water! That evening we had our last Italian dinner along one of the canals, and by god it was tasty! Then it was off to Germany, to Munich and Rhine Valley. It was time to visit the beer halls in Munich to drink massive stints of beer and huge pieces of pork! and to see the biggest but not so impressive "Cuckoo Clock". After the beer hall it was back to our hotel where we partied the rest of the night away. That night I met some random German and French guys and I scored myself a very tasty German McDonalds chicken burger. Our next stop was Rhine Valley, a peaceful, boring little place, but at least there was beer! Off to Holland, our last country of the tour, here we stopped at Edam and Amsterdam! After a bike ride around Edam we visited the Cheese and Clog shop in Edam to try some of their cheese. Then it was Amsterdam baby! I can't say I was fully myself in Amsterdam as I was on cloud 9 most of the time. The first night in Amsterdam we had a joint in front of a playground which was just round the corner from a police station, something that never happens in any other city! That first joint hit me like a ton of bricks! I was out the whole night even through the "sex show", which I do remember being not all that great! On our last day in Amsterdam we took a cruise through the canal's in paddle boats then it was off to try the magic mushrooms which I have to say was GREAT! unfortunately I do not have any photos as I was too paranoid of losing my camera! The photo where we were standing in the markets in Amsterdam was just before we all got hit by the mushrooms! That night was our last night together before heading back to London...... The tour we went on was called "European Highlights". If I had to choose which was my favorite city we visited it would be like asking me which is better, an apple or an orange. Each city is so unique and full of their own culture and history and choosing one would be impossible. They were all great in their own way! I would recommend a Contiki tour to anyone who wants to see great sites and meet great people! it was one of the best experiences of my life! I have been back in London for nearly a week now and reality hasn't quite sunk in yet especially since I have been traveling for the last 3 months! 3 months of my life that I would never trade for anything! Next week it will be time to find a job and settling myself in London. Thank god that there are people from the tour that are staying in London as well. I may have to start working soon but one thing I am certain of is that the partying won't stop here! Now it's time to ROCK London! March 31 2 more nights before contiki begins...ok so i realized that i had some duplicate photos in my journal so i have cleaned up my photos here a bit, i know some of you are probably keen to see more photos but unfortunately computers at the net cafes dont let me use my external hard drive so i will get more up as soon as i can use a computer with no restrictions...
i have 2 more nights before i leave for my tour around europe, im really looking forward to it as i have pretty much covered central london already, not that im a pro at getting around the city but i have some bearings on where the main places are! i also have an oyster card for getting around on the tube (the tube is the subway for those not familiar with the term) and i think im getting pretty good at looking like a local! i was even asked by a tourist the other day how to get to some area she was trying to find, so i must look and act like a local if a tourist is asking me such questions! i read in a magazine that one of the most important things to remember is to try and look like a local so that you dont get scammed into something by a local! ... ummm.. i wonder if i will have the english accent and drink lots of tea within a year??
i have been hanging out with my room mate the last few days, his name is Marco and he is from Canada, its been great to have a companion the last couple of days as although i have only been here for a week sometimes the loneliness kicks in and i wish i had someone to talk to or someone to share my experiences with, which is partly why im at an internet cafe almost everyday so that i can email someone as it makes me better knowing im telling someone about my day.. hehe... lame i know but hey, im in a city surrounded by millions of people and yet i can still feel lonely :p
on the brigher side, its sunny outside today which is great cos it was raining yesterday and the day before so i didnt venture out too far!
another thing i wanted to mention... did you know that london back in the 1600's (if my memory serves me right) there was a huge fire in London that wiped out about 80% of the city? thats crazy huh, apparently it all started from a bakery! when i get back i will find out more about this and take a photo of the podium that now stands at where the fire started! there is so much history behind this city its great!
next blog will be when i return to London from my tour around Europe, so till then, stay tuned! :) March 27 ahh... LONDONI arrived in London on the 25th March! boy was there a lot of people at the airport! London so far is great, there are a lot of people but the city is clean and there are parks scattered all over the city which is really cool. The weather has been nice to me lately and everyday so far has been a good day! but by the looks the rain will be coming soon!
I have already met a few aussies and a kiwi, and it was great to talk to people from the same hemisphere! i am looking forward to making more friends while here. I am here till the 2nd April by which time i will be going on my tour around Europe for 2 weeks, im really looking forward to the tour!
I had my orientation day with 1st Contact today and i got my mobile number as well as setting up my bank account in preparation for work when i come back to London after my tour. The people at 1st Contact were really nice and really helpful which has been great! im thinking about setting up a limited company and working as a contractor when i come back but im still not sure if this will be a good idea considering that it will not be permanent work and it may reduce my chances of a possible sponsorship!
Things here are obviously expensive but i have been doing ok and just holding out on spending too much till i get a job here. i have been eating £3 kebabs for dinner lately which is actually really good for the price!
My flight here was a bit of a mess tho as my initial flight to hong kong got cancelled for some reason but luckily the next flight to hong kong did not hinder my flight from hong kong to london otherwise it would have been a mess! i didnt go through numerous security checks while flying to london which was really good as i had to go through all these security checks when i was flying to the states!
well time on the computer is running out for me.... will write more soon! March 23 My time in Taiwan is nearly up.....I can not believe that I have already spent a month there in Taiwan. I have had a great time with everyone here and everyone is sooo good to me! Before I start I should probably remind myself about the awesome flight i had from Hawaii to Japan. So at the airport I was asked to wait an extra 3 hours for another flight to Japan as the flights were all pretty full. In exchange for the wait I would then get a business class seat. I had all the time in the world so naturally i did not refuse the offer. 3 hours later while checking in I was then asked again that someone in premium (for those that do not know, premium class is better than business class and is located on the top deck of the plane) wanted to sit with his friend in business class and if i would swap seats with him. What are bargain! of course I accepted the offer! It was the best seat I have been on in a plane! it was so spacious and comfortable! One of the best things about being in Taiwan is spending time with my family, relatives and family friends. I have not seen my father for 7 years and its been great to just be around him. Its quite strange that even tho we have not seen each other for so long we are quite similar. I also got to see my grandmother who is in hospital. She can no longer talk or do anything on her own. I was quite sad to see that, how ever what is even more sad is that I did not feel more... I just do not have many memories of her, actually come to think of it now i do not have any memories. None the less she is still my grandmother and i was sad to see her in that state. She had a lot of tubes coming out of her and all she did all day was just sit lie there. If i ever get that old and in that condition i do not want to be kept alive like that.... I have been to a lot of places in Taiwan, all of which have been memorable! Upon visiting Taipei 101 I actually felt really proud of Taiwans engineering feat. The design of the building is incredible and how they have built it to withstand earthquakes, which apparently are quite frequent here in Taiwan. Most of the buildings in Taiwan cities are quite bland and they all look the same how ever once you leave the city you can see some really awesome views and scenic areas! Taiwan is really really crowded, but I guess you can see this in 2 ways... one is that it is over crowded and for those that are not used to the city will probably hate it. Another is that there is a lot of energy in the city and it is very vibrant especially in the evening! I love the night life here as there are always places to go to eat or shops to browse. The air is pretty polluted tho and that is something that I miss a lot about New Zealand as the air there is crisp and fresh. Being in Taiwan has given me a very different travelling experience, it has not really been one of seeing ALL the sights or going to ALL the well known places but more about really understanding my family and relatives and being around them. Family has not really been a big thing for me as I grew up pretty independent but i always wanted to be a little closer with my family and really get to know my roots because after all when i look at myself in the mirror i do look taiwanese. Spending the late nights talking with dad has been great and i really do appreciate and feel grateful of the sacrifices my parents have had to make to put me and my siblings in the situation that we are currently in. I have seen what life is like through my cousins and I have to say that if i grew up like that i would be very very different now. I feel blessed that my life was not as hard and as stressful as that of growing up in Taiwan... I have taken a lot of photos but i have yet to sort them out and put them up, but as a teaser I have uploaded some photos of Taipei 101 and one of me and my nephew! I will post up more soon! March 06 PhotosWell as promised I have attached some photos from my visit to the following destinations: Hollywood, New Port Orange County, San Diego and Waikiki, Hawaii.
Enjoy! March 01 Now in TaiwanSo I spent 2 days in Hawaii before I landed in Taiwan. Hawaii was so beautiful, the beach was spectacular! I would have to say it's probably the best beach I have been to! the water is so clear and the skies were so blue! I will have to go back there and spend more time there as 2 days just was not enough. The main street on Waikiki beach was nice, it has all the high end stores, obviously a place for all the tourists, i.e. me! I didn't do any shopping tho as I didn't want to have to break a traveller's cheque just for the 2 days left in USA.
I am now in Taiwan, I have been here for nearly a week. So far I have met most of the relatives, how ever there are still a few to go. I went with Jack yesterday to Taichung city. He took me to a popular shopping area and also the Taichung museum. It was good to get into the city as my parents live about 45 minutes out from the main city area. I am finding it hard to get around here and have to rely on my relatives to take me around. Something that I don't like. I can ride my mums scooter but my dad worries that I will get caught by the cops, and if so I don't have a Taiwan drivers licence and also if they find out I am actually from Taiwan there is a chance they will make me stay here for military training. So riding my mums scooter is not worth the risk. Like Hong Kong, the food here is great, so many places to choose from and the meals are sooo cheap. You can get a descent meal here for about NZ$1, that is just crazy! you can only get a hamburger for that price back in NZ!
Photos will come soon as the computer I am using now doesn't have a very good internet connection.... February 21 My last day in California!Well tonight is my last night here in California. I fly out to Hawaii in the morning. I feel sad and excited at the same time, sad that I will not get to see my best friend for years to come but excited because I am about to proceed to the next part of my journey. I have really enjoyed my stay here in California. TZ and I managed to get to all the places I wanted to check out as well as spending time with him and his family. His family has been very kind to me and I feel really grateful that they have allowed me to stay here this long and also taking care of me. The places we managed to get to were: San Francisco, San Diego, Orange County and of course places around LA such as Hollywood and the Getty Centre. I have attached some photos of San Diego, Hollywood and San Francisco! My favourite places would be San Francisco and San Diego. I like San Diego as it is by the coast and the beaches there are really nice, I like San Francisco as I like the way the city has been designed and I love the buildings they have maintained there. I would love to go to those cities again some time. Well I better be getting some sleep as I have to be up in less than 3 hours!... I can never seem to sleep when I know I have a flight the next day... February 05 A real car chase! So I went to a Buddha temple with Thuzan and his family and on the way home I saw a real car chase, you know like the kind you see on TV. It was crazy! the guy trying to get away was in a van and he was pulling some really dangerous turns on the freeway. I don't understand how he is going to outrun a cop car in a van tho. He then made a sharp turn into the off ramp thinking he could get rid of the cop but the cop was right after him! The van was so close to crashing into the other cars. Unfortunately that was all I got to see as we did not need to get off the off ramp. It was definitely very cool seeing a real car chase in LA!!
Well I would write more but I'm really tired from lack of sleep. I went to a salsa and hip hop club last night and only slept about 3 hours cos we had to get up early to go with Thuzan and his family to the Burmese monastery to pay respect to his past away uncle. So will post up pictures and write more later. January 24 In the "City of Angels"I just spent 5 days in Hong Kong and how cool is that city!! everything is really cheap and its really easy to get around on their subway system too. They have this Octopus card where you put some money on and you can use it to get around on the MTR. You can even buy things with the card so if you run out of coinage you can just use your Octopus card. Quite intuitive i think. There are a lot of people in Hong Kong but that is expected. The food in Hong Kong is really nice and cheap too. I could eat sooo much over there! I then spent a day in Taiwan with dad. It was good to see him, I think it has been over 6 years since I last saw dad. We visited grandma who is like 94 or something, she cant walk and spends her days in bed. I caught the bus to Taichung on my own which was a good experience. I also said hi to a few family friends around our house but because i was there for only 1 day i really didn't have enough time to see the rest of my relatives. I will when i go back to Taiwan for a month after visiting the US. The flight to LA was a long one. I flew from Taiwan to Osaka, Japan where i had to wait about 9 hours for my connecting flight to Hawaii. I only had about a 3 hour wait in Hawaii before my flight to LA. Hawaii was nice, the weather was really good, I will stay there for 2 days on my way back to Taiwan. I got to LA pretty late (around 9pm) and i was really really tired. I slept most of the first day here. Thuzan still has lab this week which is good cos it has allowed me to really just relax and sleep in if i want to. I have also joined the gym here to try and get in more shape. I like going to the gym with Thuzan cos he has a good work out and its just more fun working out with him. We still have to plan our drive up the west coast but we will do that soon. I don't miss NZ, but i do miss all my friends there.
